Frequently Asked Questions
I’m new here. What should I expect?
Many new clients may be nervous when arriving for their first massage appointment, especially if they have never had a massage before. At Shirley’s Well, we will make sure you have a positive and comfortable experience.
Please plan to arrive at least 5-10 minutes before your appointment. This gives you time to catch your breath, use the restroom if needed, and start your session on time.
Since Shirley’s Well is located within a shared space, we ask that you keep your voices and electronics down at low volume while you wait to be taken into the treatment room.
After a brief conversation about your health history and any concerns or goals you may have for your visit, the therapist will leave the room to let you get settled.
During my massage should I leave my clothes on or get fully undressed?
Your comfort and modesty are always respected. Clients usually prefer to dress down to their underwear. Removing bra-straps will help access the muscles of your back and shoulders.
A licensed massage therapist will always make sure you are properly draped. “Draping” refers to the practice of covering your body with a sheet or towel, only exposing the specific area of the body being worked on.
Does massage hurt?
Although some therapeutic techniques can feel intense at times, massage should never be painful.
If the intensity does not feel productive or comfortable, please let your therapist know. The pressure can always be adjusted!
I am pregnant, can I get a massage?
Shirley’s Well is currently located in a 3rd floor walk-up (sorry no elevator). For the safety and comfort of expecting mothers, we do not offer prenatal massage.
When should I not get a massage?
If you are experiencing fever, chills, nausea/vomit, widespread rash or other infections, it is in everyone’s best interest to reschedule your appointment.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
We understand things happen, and ask that you cancel/reschedule with as much advance notice as possible.
If you are running late, please text or call. The full treatment time is not guaranteed.
How can I make an appointment?
You can book online up to 3 hours prior to your desired time.
Please book ahead of time, as we can not accommodate walk-ins.
Otherwise, text for availability.
How can I pay?
We accept cash, credit/debit, and digital wallets. NJ sales tax of 6.625% will be added at check-out.
Do you offer any discounts or promotions?
New clients can use the code FIRST20 when booking their appointment to get 20% off their first massage.
